life, lately: a quick getaway to cambridge

This weekend, my dad and stepmom drove to Salisbury to watch Olivia while Rich and I had a weekend off at the Hyatt in Cambridge. We were celebrating both of our birthdays but really we just needed a moment to recharge, have adult conversations, and sleep in.

We were so excited to get started, we left at 10 am on Saturday morning. We arrived at the Hyatt about 30 minutes later, not thinking that we wouldn't be able to check in or that the restaurants probably wouldn't be open. So we bundled up and walked around the grounds for a bit.

After that, we went to lunch at the Water's Edge restaurant. We proceeded to have the rest of our meals here as we thought it would be more relaxing to stay on the resort than to have to worry about logistics for getting to nearby restaurants. Plus, we wouldn't feel like we needed to rush to get ready after the spa.

After lunch, we went to the spa. Rich had a massage and I had a Body Glow treatment in the Vichy Shower and a manicure and pedicure. Have you ever experienced a Vichy Shower? This was my first time and it was heavenly. They exfoliate your body while you lie down but there is constantly a warm shower over top of you to keep you from getting cold and to rinse you off. It is hard to explain but the feeling and sound of the shower is very soothing.

After the spa, we relaxed a little bit in our room and then went down to the bar for a pre-dinner cocktail and an appetizer. I tried a Maker's Redhead which had bourbon, cranberry juice, and soda water. I may have found an alternative to my usual Old Fashioned.

For dinner, we had a cozy seat by the fire. I had Rockfish Oscar which was delicious! Oh, and wine, of course.

After dinner, we decided to try out the hot tub but found the pool was much more fun. We actually watched the end of Frozen as well since they were projecting it there. Rich decided it would be fun to dunk me under water and he got a chance to experience what that does to non-waterproof mascara. I think he will ask what I have on before he does that next time.

The next morning, we slept in and then had breakfast. I ordered Crab Cake Benedict, one of my favorite breakfast meals.

It was great to have a weekend to reconnect with Rich. I think, regardless of whether or not you have a child, it is easy to get lost in the day to day and forget to have a little fun with your significant other. I loved being able to hang out with Rich without rushing through dinner or having the stress of weekend chores. We definitely need to make this a regular thing.

One of the best parts of this weekend? Coming home to a house where my parents had finished all the laundry, organized my office, and unpacked the last of the moving boxes. I was able to spend my birthday snuggling with Olivia and getting a much-needed workout in instead of worrying about doing this or that.

What did you do this weekend?
